RingCentral vs Zoom Phone
By Myroslav Orshak · Updated September 2026 · how we test and make money
This is the clearest price gap in the business phone market: $20 per user against $10.50. Both are real business phone systems from serious companies, and for a large share of small offices they will feel identical in daily use.
So the honest question is not which is better. It is whether the extra $9.50 per user, per month, buys anything your business will actually use — which for many readers it does not.
Choose RingCentral
Pick RingCentral if you depend on integrations with Salesforce or Microsoft 365, run more than one location, or want reporting an office manager can act on.
from $20/user/mo
Choose Zoom Phone
Pick Zoom Phone if your team already meets on Zoom, your needs are ordinary office calling, and you would rather spend the difference somewhere else.
from $10.50/user/mo
Where they are the same
On the things most businesses use every day these are the same product. Both give you a company number, an auto-receptionist, call routing by time and team, extensions, transfers, voicemail with transcripts, business texting, and apps for desktop and mobile that work well. Nobody in your office will be able to tell which one you bought from how a call feels.
Side by side
A highlighted cell means that product is genuinely better on that row. Many rows are a tie, and we mark them that way rather than inventing a winner.
| What you are comparing | RingCentral | Zoom Phone |
|---|---|---|
| Starting price | from $20/user/mo | from $10.50/user/mo |
| What that price assumes | Core plan, annual billing | Metered calling; unlimited is $16 annual, $18 monthly |
| Everyday calling features | Auto-receptionist, routing, texting, voicemail transcripts | Auto-receptionist, routing, texting, voicemail transcripts |
| Integrations | 300+, including deep Salesforce and Microsoft 365 | The major ones, less depth |
| Reporting and analytics | Detailed, on standard plans | Covers the basics |
| If your team already uses the vendor | No particular advantage | Lives in the app everyone has open for meetings |
| Support | Full support organization, phone included | Leans on chat and documentation |
| Multi-site and scale | Built for it | Workable, less administrative depth |
What actually decides it
The metered plan is the catch worth understanding
Zoom Phone's $10.50 tier charges per minute for outbound calls. For an office that mostly receives calls, that is genuinely cheap. For a sales team dialing all day it is not, and the honest comparison is Zoom's $16 unlimited tier against RingCentral's $20, a much narrower gap than the headline suggests. Work out roughly how many outbound minutes your team uses before comparing anything.
Integrations are the real reason to pay more
If a ringing phone should show who is calling from your CRM, and the call should log itself afterwards, RingCentral does that more thoroughly and with more systems. If nobody has ever asked for that, it is the single largest thing you would be paying for and not using.
Annual billing hides in both headline prices
RingCentral's $20 assumes an annual commitment; month-to-month it is $30. Zoom's unlimited plan is $16 on annual billing and $18 month-to-month, a much smaller premium. If you are unsure how long you will stay, that difference matters more than the sticker price and rarely appears in comparisons.
Already on Zoom? That is a real argument, not a marketing one
Staff adoption is where phone system rollouts actually fail. If your team already opens Zoom every morning, putting the phone in the same window removes the training problem entirely. That is worth more to a small business than a feature nobody will find.

RingCentral vs Zoom Phone: questions
Is Zoom Phone actually half the price?
Nearly, on the headline figure, but compare the right tiers. Zoom's $10.50 plan meters outbound calling; unlimited is $16 on annual billing against RingCentral's $20. For a receive-heavy office the metered plan really is about half the price. For a team making constant outbound calls, the gap is closer to a fifth.
Do I need Zoom meetings to use Zoom Phone?
No, it works as a standalone phone system. Being on Zoom already is an advantage rather than a requirement, because the phone appears in software your team already uses and there is nothing new to learn.
Which has better call quality?
Neither has a meaningful edge, and anyone claiming otherwise from a feature list is guessing. Call quality is decided overwhelmingly by your own internet connection, specifically its steadiness rather than its speed. Test yours before blaming either provider.
Can I keep my number whichever one I choose?
Yes. Number portability is a legal right in the US and both companies port numbers as a matter of routine. The one rule that matters is timing: start the transfer while your existing account is still open, because canceling first can release the number permanently.
